Shopify App — Run Botaura Inside Shopify Admin

The Botaura Shopify app connects your Shopify store to Botaura and embeds your assistant, orders, and WhatsApp inbox directly inside Shopify admin. This guide covers install → connect → what syncs → data handling → troubleshooting → uninstall.

Plan requirement: Connecting a store requires the Business plan or above. You'll need a Botaura account first — sign up at botaura.app/sign-up.

1. Install the App

  1. Install Botaura from the Shopify App Store (or an install link we provide).
  2. Shopify asks you to approve the app's access. Botaura requests read-only access to products, orders, and customers — it reads what it needs to answer questions, sell, and confirm orders; it doesn't get write access to your store.
  3. Approve, and the app opens inside your Shopify admin.

2. Connect or Claim Your Store

Inside the app you'll see one of three states:

  • Connect — link this store to your Botaura account.
  • Claim — the store is recognized but not yet linked to a Botaura Business account; claim it and, if needed, follow the upgrade path.
  • Connected — you're all set.

On connecting, Botaura automatically:

  • Backfills your product catalog.
  • Runs a one-time crawl of your storefront (custom domain if set, otherwise your myshopify.com domain) to build the knowledge base.
  • Registers product webhooks so changes sync live.

3. What Syncs (and What Doesn't)

Syncs into Botaura

  • Products — full catalog on connect, then live product create, update, and delete webhooks (same three-topic coverage as WooCommerce).
  • Orders — new orders flow in via the orders/create webhook; cash-on-delivery orders trigger a WhatsApp confirmation.
  • Abandoned checkoutscheckouts/create feeds Cart Recovery.
  • Customerscustomers/create keeps your customer list current.
  • Storefront content — the on-connect crawl adds your pages to the bot's knowledge base.

Order status writes — Botaura-native

When you change an order's status from the embedded Orders screen, Botaura updates its own order record and notifies the customer directly (the same way the web dashboard does). It deliberately does not write back to Shopify — Shopify stays your fulfillment source of truth, and this avoids asking you for extra write permissions. Fulfillment you do in Shopify is reflected in Botaura via the order webhook.


4. Using Botaura Inside Shopify Admin

Once connected, the app embeds the same screens as the Botaura dashboard — Overview, Chatbot, Orders, WhatsApp Inbox, Templates, Campaigns, Customers, Leads, Cart Recovery, and more — so you manage everything without leaving Shopify (see Dashboard Overview). It's the same account and data as the web dashboard. Connecting WhatsApp from here offers self-serve Embedded Signup or white-glove setup (see WhatsApp Setup); Meta's signup opens in a new top-level tab and the screen updates when you return.


5. Data Handling & Privacy

The app follows Shopify's privacy requirements. It only accesses the customer data it needs (customer name and phone, and orders) to message shoppers on WhatsApp and confirm orders. It responds to Shopify's mandatory compliance requests:

  • Customer data request — returns the data held for a customer.
  • Customer redact — deletes a customer's data on request.
  • Shop redact — cleans up your store's data after you uninstall.

6. Troubleshooting

  • App won't open / blank screen — reload the app in Shopify admin; the embedded app uses Shopify App Bridge and needs an active admin session.
  • Can't connect — asks to claim — the store is tied to another Botaura account; claim it or disconnect it there first.
  • Needs a Business plan — connecting is Business+; use the in-app upgrade path.
  • Products or orders missing — backfill runs on connect (allow a few minutes); live changes arrive by webhook. Re-saving a product in Shopify re-fires its webhook.
  • No WhatsApp confirmation on an order — confirmations are for COD orders with consent and need your WhatsApp number connected and the order template approved.

7. Uninstall

Remove the app from Shopify admin → Settings → Apps. Uninstalling revokes access and triggers Shopify's shop redact flow, after which Botaura cleans up the store's data on its side. Data already in your Botaura account remains in your account — manage or delete it from the Botaura dashboard.
